Online Learning & Virtual Field Experiences
Thank you for participating in Saint Vincent College Education Department's online community education. The purpose of this page is to provide links and documents to PreK-4, 4-8, and 7-12 students attending online courses offered by teacher education candidates. The goal of this program is to offer a service to the K-12 community and to allow Saint Vincent teacher education college students an opportunity to deliver instruction online. To learn more about Saint Vincent College Education Department's online teacher training and research-based practices, including Saint Vincent's ATOP (Articulated Tiers of Online Pedagogy) model for teaching teachers to teach online, please click here.
Since this is a new learning experience for both the K-12 students and the teacher education candidates, the materials presented will be fully supervised by college faculty. While every attempt will be made to ensure accurate and meaningful content and instruction occurs, this online, first-time learning experience may present some unexpected situations in which students on both sides will need to be understanding and supportive.
The online "real-time" platform will be conducted using the Blackboard Collaborate software. The software will require PreK-12 students to input their first name to participate in the online session. Other than a student's first name, no other information will be required for the sign-in. All participating students can connect to a course session by using a DSL, Cable, or LAN internet-ready and connected computer with a microphone/headset. Since students are attending this instruction from a K-12 setting, the instructor will be permitted to transmit video, but students will not. Instructors will use audio, polling, chat, and other features to fully encourage student interaction and discussion. Prior to the scheduled time of your course, please make sure your system is compatible by going to this site to check First-Time Users: Blackboard Collaborate
