This year marks the 5th year the Education Department has supported the Westmoreland County Children’s Bureau in making children’s Christmas wishes come true. These are children from Westmoreland County; many are in the schools we frequent. Please join us for this 2 day community service event. Over 100 SVC students attend the 2 day event. Last year we served 210 children. Although this is a holiday event it is geared towards adults and SVC students.
Saturday
6:30 am meet at K Mart to shop for children from their wish list. Faculty support SVC students by making sense of sizes and requests of the children, help SVC students maximize the money they have to spend, and help out organizing the purchases at the registers. Coffee, tea, cocoa, juice, and snacks provided. We are typically finished around 9:00 am.
Sunday
11:30 am Wrapping Party at the Winnie Palmer Nature Reserve. We wrap the gifts, stuff a stocking, create an ornament, and add a tin of popcorn for each child on the Children’s Bureau Christmas list. Faculty help by staffing the work areas, wrapping paper, stocking stuffers, food tables, door prizes, and general needs. Staying to clean up is much appreciated. Lunch, door prizes, Christmas music, and lots of fun are provided.
