PDE Certifying Graduate Program Exit Requirements (note: not all programs lead to certification - see program page)
Exit Criteria for PDE Certifications at the Graduate Level
For successful completion of the Saint Vincent College graduate-level PDE preparation program, which leads to certification in the State of Pennsylvania, candidates must successfully complete the following.
1. Complete the required coursework
Candidates must earn a passing grade in all required courses, by completing all course requirements in a satisfactory manner, as outlined in the course syllabus.
2. Complete the practicum/internship courses or competency requirements as outlined by EACH program's handbook
Candidates must satisfactorily complete the fieldwork competencies under the direction of a mentor LEA professional and the college instructor. The college instructor will complete corresponding handbook rubric evaluating the candidate's performance. Candidates must earn satisfactory or higher on the aligned final evaluation for the specified program.
3. Electronic or Digital Portfolio*
All candidates seeking a stand alone certification must complete the capstone electronic (or digitized pdf) portfolio, demonstrating proficiency in the certification's area. The requirements for this portfolio are specified in the program handbook. *Endorsement certifications do not require a portfolio; however, evidenced field work is required and reviewed by course instructor/practicum supervisor.
4. Licensure Assessments (when required)
Some graduate candidates in certain programs must pass the appropriate specific assessment tests for licensure to be approved for certification. For information on licensure assessments and if you required to take a test, please consult your program handbook and practicum/internship instructor.
5. TIMS Certification Application
Candidates will apply for certification through the Pennsylvania Department of Education Teacher Management System (TIMS), paying the appropriate fees. For information about TIMS, click here.
6. GPA: 3.0 or Higher
Candidates in Pennsylvania must maintain a 3.0 or above the receive certification in the state of Pennsylvania.
7. SVC Graduation Requirements*
Candidates must meet all Saint Vincent College requirements for the graduate program including passing the comprehensive exam. *endorsement programs do not require a comprehensive exam.
8. Exit survey
At the end of the final semester and upon completion internship requirements, each candidate taking the comprehensive exam will respond to exit questions regarding their current employment and experiences at Saint Vincent and with the program.
9. Code of Professional Practice and Conduct for Educator
Candidates must adhere to the Code of Professional Practice and Conduct for Educators and are aware of the consequences for immediate dismissal if not followed.
