Field Experiences
ED 400 PRE-STUDENT TEACHING: Pre-Student Teaching is part of the field work required for students seeking teacher certification at Saint Vincent College. Before entering full-time student teaching, students at Saint Vincent College have one semester of Pre-student teaching, where they go to a school one day a week to teach with an assigned cooperating teacher. The Saint Vincent College Teacher Preparation is unique and stands apart from other colleges by offering pre-student teaching. Pre-student teaching provides students with a chance to "get their feet wet" by meeting with their cooperating teacher(s), students, and teaching one full day each week. It prepares students for full time teaching the following semester (and in most cases students get to return to the same teaching assignment with the same cooperating teachers for Student Teaching).

ED 410 STUDENT TEACHING: Student Teaching is the senior internship and final field experience required for students seeking teacher certification at Saint Vincent College. Following Pre-student teaching, Student Teaching is a full time internship in a school. Students work with a cooperating teaching in a school district every day for 14 weeks; therefore, students must have all their required undergraduate courses completed prior to student teaching. Student teachers gain more classroom responsibilities and teaching time, including taking on a full teaching load. The Student Teaching internship is also accompanied by a seminar class that meets once a week. Student Teaching is one of the most beneficial field experiences for future teachers.
